There are various ways of participating in the work of the NOC.
Advisory Board
The overall work plan will be guided by the Advisory Board which will identify key OS&S related issues for the UK which can benefit from clarification and the development of strategic thinking. This board will seek to represent a broad range of expertise and interest including, but not limited to, the OS community, vendors and users, those with interests in software, standards and society, and standards, public, private and voluntary sectors, commercial, new media and embedded applications.
Membership is by invitation, although suggestions for participation are always welcome.
Subject Panels
When the NOC is addressing a particular key issue it will establish a Subject Panel to guide the development of the debate, including ensuring that all perspectives are considered, and review the deliverables from the debate. These panels will be created for each issue being addressed.
Current subject panels are:
- Public procurement
- Open Standards
- Open Source/Open Standards for small to medium enterprises (SME's)
Visit the wiki to find out more and get involved.
Again membership is by invitation, although suggestions for participation are always welcome.
Community
The NOC will have its own community of people who wish to be kept informed of what is happening, receive some of the outputs and who it is hoped will wish to contribute to some of the debates, whether because of the own expertise, enthusiasm or interest.
To join this group, please register
Sponsorship
The NOC requires resources to keep going and sponsorship is one way of providing these. The NOC recognises that it must be independent in order to be authoritative and is adamant that sponsorship will not influence the content of its deliverables e.g. policies and papers. However there will be benefits to organisation from sponsorship in terms of public relations and branding.

Management Committee
The NOC will be managed by a committee consisting of its 3 founding members, Birmingham City Council, the National Computing Centre and Open Advantage. The management committee will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the NOC as an open independant and authoritative focal point for thinking about OS&S and administer its operation.
